ABOUT
Committed to Excellence
Carolina Immigration Law is a non-profit immigration law firm that offers legal services to immigrants through our community partners. By leveraging technology and partnering with immigrant community service organizations whose staff help with the intake process, our doors stay open to new cases at all times. We provide affordable services because we believe that immigrants deserve excellent representation when seeking a legal status.
Our Story
Our co-founders met while exploring ways to serve the immigrant community in the Charlotte area. Recognizing the need for affordable and accessible immigration legal assistance, they wanted to make a meaningful impact. An initial meeting together evolved into creating the Carolina Immigration Law. By uniting our extensive immigration legal and non-profit experience with a background in the private business sector, we’re poised to serve organizations and communities in ways we never imagined.

Melissa Briones, Immigration Paralegal
As a first-generation immigrant, working in immigration has always been close to Melissa’s heart. From a young age, she volunteered with the Farmworkers Association of Immokalee, FL, a community of primarily undocumented immigrants. This experience sparked her passion for immigration advocacy, prompting her to relocate to New York City to pursue a career in the non-profit sector focusing on immigration.
Melissa worked with the New York Immigrant Family Unity Project (NYIFUP) at Brooklyn Defenders for almost seven years as a Paralegal. This was the first program in the nation that granted legal representation and assistance to undocumented immigrants at no cost. Her work primarily focused on providing case support in immigration removal defense cases. As a native Spanish speaker, she values understanding clients’ needs and stories to provide more effective support.
When she’s not working with clients, Melissa enjoys hiking, photography, and spending time with her cat. She’s always on the hunt for delicious food and good music.
